Shut and not say how they really feel or what is truly going on. At the age of 5 you learned not to say “Wow, that person is really fat,” or else you’ll get smacked by your mother. Little has changed.

• Are people really telling you the truth about the status of their projects?
• Are people really telling you the truth about what they think should be done?
• Do people have opinions about you, the company or projects that they secretly harbor?
• Are there conflicts and upsets that you don’t even know about that threaten the viability of your organization or a project?
• Are the problems that you don’t know about?
• What are the “unofficial rules”?
• Is your organization full of rumors, innuendo and gossip?
• What is in the unsaid?
